“Betty” -Phalaenopsis Orchid
Originally rescued for free from Home Depot in April of 2025, after it had lost all its blooms. The flower spike remained, and it rebloomed for several months, eventually dropping the blooms and flower spike in September 2025.
It has put out one leaf, and dropped one leaf.

“Iris” -Phalaenopsis Orchid
September 2025 -Purchased for $5 from Home Depot after it had dropped all its blooms. It was very dehydrated, and spent the next month desperately trying to put out blooms. It was trying for flowers instead of sending energy to the leaves, so I cut the flower spike to save the plant. It battled with a bit of root rot, but has made a nice recovery. Fresh thick roots into the water cup, and several new leaves.
November 2025 -Potted it up in a cup of moss.
December 2025 -New flower spike starting to form. 5 large leaves, 1 new leaf growing in.

September 2025 -Two new healthy leaves since April, but currently has some sap beading along one leaf. It still has the one leaf with a brown spot on it.
November 2025 -Wrangled some of its air roots into a cup of water for additional hydration.
March 2026 -Starting to grow a new flower spike.

“Julia” -Phalaenopsis Orchid
Originally purchased from Home Depot for $5 after all its blooms fell off. It had a bit of root rot, so I put it in an ‘orchid pot’ for a while, where it did not get enough moisture.
I then repotted it into a clay pot with orchid mix. It still doesn’t seem to be thriving, and as of September 2025 has sap beading under and around one leaf, and the leaves are somewhat wilted.

‘Vanilla Karen-christianae’ Orchid
Purchased February 2025 at the Southern Ontario Orchid Show. It immediately began dying back. Many leaves were lost. I placed it into a plastic grow tent with a heater and bowl of water for humidity as soon as possible. I also repotted it, as it had no pot.
It began to slowly stop dying back, and then grew a few tentative roots. It truly began growing new leaves in late August after being moved into a new plant cabinet. It was then plagued by thrips in September, and had more die-back.
January 2026 - It’s dropped 2 or 3 more leaves, but has started growing a new branch!
March 2026 -New branch has grown from height of black ziptie to above the moss pole,

‘Vanilla Karen-christianae’ Orchid
This piece either fell off the mother plant during transportation, or broke off when the mother was being repotted.
December 2025 -Multiple new growth points have died off due to thrips or inhospitable conditions (low heat/ low humidity). One large branch has died off. The roots have grown quite strong though, and the plant still seems to have some strength.
March 2026 -Another branch died off, and then restarted.
